Jesus tells us that most important commandments are; "love the Lord with all you heart, soul, strength and mind", and "love your neighbor as yourself".
We have to realize that all Jesus teachings and commands fit in these two, so it is not as simple as most of us making it up to be.

We are all connected, this is why it is that when we give help to anyone it is like giving help to Jesus. The least we do it unto these little ones, we do it unto him. This is why we should do good to other people, because we do it to ourselves.

Yes, when wo do good to others we are also doing good to ourselves.
You are right, all Jesus teachings are connected.
