Exodus 13:11-13 (King James Version)
11And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, as he sware unto thee and to thy fathers, and shall give it thee,
12That thou shalt set apart unto the LORD all that openeth the matrix, and every firstling that cometh of a beast which thou hast; the males shall be the LORD's.
13And every firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb; and if thou wilt not redeem it, then thou shalt break his neck: and all the firstborn of man among thy children shalt thou redeem.
Why did He say to redeem firstborn son? How do they redeem? _________________ YHWH is my God and Jesus is my Lord
Several things are in view with the 'Firstborn' offerings to God. In its simplest form offering God the best that we have is always part of worship. What ever we recieve in life is to be considered a blessing from God.
In Jewish life this meant giving God the first parts of the harvests, since it was God's rain and sunshine and earth that made it happen. In family life, having children is a miracle from God, all of the children should serve God but the first child was to serve as the leader, first representing the best. Since they had a national priesthood, the priests represented the people before God.
In the Exodus from Egypt the Firstborn of humans and animals were spared from the 10th plague.
In the Salvation method of redeeming the human race, God draws on this ancient example. He gives his firstborn son for us.
He has given his finest.
Regards
