Why does the Bible talks about clean and unclean animal?
I believe that this distinction was for figurative or symbolic purposes regarding sin. Those animals considered unclean held no figurative cleanness regarding sin, and thus were not considered as sacrifice for sin, whereas the "clean" animals were regarded as proper sacrifice for sin. Such cleanness prefigured, foreshadowed, the sinless sacrifice of Jesus for sin. -- Hebrews 9:9,23,24; 10:1-14.
