Who or what is the "faithful and wise servant"? Most Bible Students believe that is is Charles Russell. The Jehovah's Witnesses use the term "faithful and discreet slave" and at once time were taught that is was the class of the "anointed" (the 144,000) but now it seems that the "slave" now represesnts the governing body (correct me if I'm wrong).

Because Jeus' parables are symbolic (and perhaps because I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness), I have difficulty believing that the servant is any one individuals And if the servant is symbolic ...then who does the evil slave represent? The Scriptures seem to imply that the evil slave may have once been faithful so could it be that the evil slave comes from the faithful slave class?

So I guess my question is...Who is the "faithful and wise servant" and who is the evil slave?

Here is the scripture I'm referring to"
Matthew 24:43-51 (KJV)

43But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.

44Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

45Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?

46Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

47Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.

48But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;

49And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;

50The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,

51And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

there is a little more detail in Luke 12:42-48

42And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?

43Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

44Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.

45But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;

46The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

47And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

48But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

Yes I would tend to agree. And the Scripture says that Jesus will also judge the (evil) servant who did not prepare for the Lord's coming.

All we do is to be faithful daily and we are prepared.

i think a lot of us would like to have a servant to tell us what is what.this divides the church into sects of privildged knowledge custodians.

Quite so Marty.

I don't know if we can ever work out all the verses in the bible.
Many have tried & end up putting their own manmade ideas into a doctrine or church policy, ETC.

I could say what I think & then draw a following after my "idea".
This is not what the truth is all about, as Marty says, "this divides the church."

My policy is that if there is no clear scriptural answer, accept it as it is written & don't "make up" an answer.
Leave it with our Father to tell us if He chooses to.

Yes,

We should focus on what the Bible says instead of our own churches and groups interpretations or doctrines, because that's what is going on in most churches, groups and organizations.

I quite agree Hitomi.

I always use reference material such as the Strong's Exhaustive Concordance, Vines Expositary Bible Dictionary & (some commentaries with caution).

I also have 3 interlinear Bibles which give us as close as possible to the original meaning as written in the Bible.
